Chilies are my comfort food

I am having a snack of white bread with turkey pate and sambal ulek. The sauce is not terribly spicy - somehow I thought that "made in Thailand" equaled "really spicy" - but it's just right, on the spicy side. Probably very spicy to an unaccustomed palate. It is also definitely sour; it could be slightly sweeter. Although I remember that when I first opened the jar it seemed to contain a bit too much sugar. I was disappointed because the previous jar tasted just so perfect that I ate the sambal almost by tablespoons. Perhaps it's my taste tonight, craving for something sweet.
